On behalf of all of us at Soroptomists International, Southend on Sea I would like to send
grateful thanks to everyone at St Andrews and St Peters for your generosity. I have been overwhelmed with the amount of toiletries you have provided for the ladies in need at both Southend and
Basildon Womens' Refuges. The past few months have been a particularly difficult time for many women and your kind donations have been very gratefully received. Jill

Two member of our church community have been getting creative to help others in our community.
Stacey Rose is making ear protectors and scrub bags for key workers. If you are interested you can contact Stacey via email to email@example.com
Debs Oakley is also making ear protectors - hers are the crochet version. If you are interested you can contact her via email to firstname.lastname@example.org
I am sure those of you venturing out for your daily exercise will have seen rainbows starting to appear. As we know rainbows have a strong symbolism as a sign of hope. How lovely to see them in
our local area sending a positive message of faith and hope within our community.
If you have pictures of your own rainbows and would like them added to our website please send them via email to email@example.com
As many of you will know we have a super baker within our midst. Elsa has been putting her skills to good use making cakes for frontline NHS workers. Well done Elsa!!
Another great cake made by Elsa, this one was for a local doctor's surgery. They are superheroes indeed!
Thank you to the Shoebury Residents' Association for providing the following information.
Southend Coronavirus Action - Hundreds of food parcels and medication have been delivered to those who are most at risk in our community, thanks to Southend
Coronavirus Action and its helpline. Government restrictions mean that the most vulnerable are being asked not to leave their homes for 12 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic. This particular
group, identified by the NHS, are asked not go visit the shops to get essential supplies, but to ask others to do this for them. Although set up initially for those at highest risk, the helpline is
available to anyone who needs help yet doesn’t have family or friends nearby to step in. We ask people in Southend not to feel alone and to call 01702 212497 if you need support. So far, we have
delivered: 216 food parcels, 160 deliveries of general food shopping, 140 prescriptions, 16 be-friending calls and we have walked 4 dogs! Food and supplies are being delivered by council staff and
the voluntary community, following a drive on Facebook to ask for people who might be able to help. To everyone who has volunteered, thank you.
Special thanks go to the small army of Shoebury volunteers who give a great service to vulnerable Shoeburyness residents and to
Peter Lovett who spends many hours coordinating activities for our section of Southend.
WARNING - phone call hoax – Our chairman’s daughter received a phone call, purporting to be from Government, announcing that all UK citizens are now
required to wear a face mask and to press 1 to be put through to an order line. This was a hoax. If you receive a similar call replace the receiver immediately.
£59m debt write-off for Southend Hospital - Southend Hospital is to benefit from a £59,138,000 debt write-off as part of the Government's announcement to scrap £13.4bn of NHS
debt across England. This will put our local health services in a stronger position not only to fight coronavirus in the short term, but also provide a stable footing to invest in maintaining vital
services and longer-term infrastructure improvements too.
Many of you are already offering help to others at this time, in a whole host of ways. If you would like to tell us about something you are doing please feel free to contact us via email at
