My dear Friends.

Words have never been my strong point. At school 1 enjoyed and did well at maths and science but struggled with any subject that demanded a good grasp of the English language. Foreign languages were just the end as far as I was concerned, which probably explains why I enjoy holidays in this country or Australia!!John with teacup

So over the years I have never been any good at crossword puzzles, Scrabble and the LV. programme Countdown has never interested me (apart from the two 'number' rounds). Then not so long ago came something to warm my heart, tax my brain and prove to be a bit of a time waster! The Sudoku puzzle! I resisted the challenge for months and then one day decided to give it a go and I have been hooked ever since!

My daily newspapers provide me with several such puzzles every day and on holiday it was commented that I had my head in a Sudoku puzzle book at every opportunity! So if I do not answer the door. pick up the phone or arrive on time for a Church Service, blame it on the Sudoku!

So I'm a person who prefers numbers to words which makes it kind of surprising that the Lord called me from the pigment colour industry into the Church where words are kind of important. To me it is always a reminder that the Lord often has a different perspective on things and sees a much bigger picture than we do. Struggling with words as I do has made me much more dependent on the Lord and probably encouraged others, since if the Lord has called and used me, then there is hope for anyone!

So, from the above ramblings:

  1. We have to be disciplined in our use of time. 1 have to be strict over how much time I spend doing a Sudoku otherwise not much else will get done. For you it may not be a Sudoku but something else that could so easily take over.
  2. We are all different and the Lord can use us all and sometimes in ways which defy our earthly logic. Who would have put me in the pulpit when as a scientist I had great difficulty writing reports or speaking in a group let alone in front of many people. So we must never limit God in our lives.
  3. Wherever you are in the coming 'holiday weeks' do have a good time and try and relax and recharge your batteries. For some it means reading a good book or two, or going on a long walk, or relaxing by the pool, or listening to music or... and for me? yes you have guessed it... Sudoku puzzles!

God bless you
Yours sincerely
