My dear Friends.
First a cheer or more appropriately a shout of 'Praise the
Lord" At long last our Garden of Remembrance is ready for use. Of course, I
wish we did not have to have churchyards but death is a fact of life and I am
so grateful to all those who have contributed in lots of different ways to what
I think will be a very special place in our churchyard. In the Autumn we wiU
plant bulbs, shrubs and bushes and in a few years the area should look even
better.
Secondly a tear! In 1970 I went to a second-hand dealer in
Fuiham and purchased a very large wooden desk for the princely sum of
£8.50. That desk has served me well and seen the production of all my
sermons over the past 35 years! Sadly we have now got to part! I am moving my
study into a much smaller room and the desk has got to go. Anyone know of a
loving rest home for such a desk?
Thirdly a groan for I have had to change the date of our Open
Meeting to dlscuss the future of the 10.30 a.m. Sunday Special Service at St
Peter's. The new date is a week later - Wednesday, 21st July at 8.00 p.m. in St
Peter's.
Fourthly a creak as an oldie like me falls on my knees to
pray. I am updating our Prayer Diary which has been around for a couple of
years and if you would ilke to be part of the new one please do let me have
your name (address, telephone and E-mail are all optional but very helpful for
others in contacting you for special support in prayer). The idea is for each
of us to pray for each other regularly. Names to me please by 24th July.
Fifthly a 'slurp' as people drink a cup of tea in the garden
of South Shoebury Hall on Saturday, 16th July. I hope a good number of us will
respond to the kind invitation of Mr & Mrs Dedman and join us between 2.30
p.m. and 4.30 p.m. on that afternoon. Tickets, which include a cup of tea cost
£1.75 on the day and proceeds will go to the Shoebury Society and our own
Church.
Finally a sigh as many of us will have opportunity to go on a
holiday in the next few weeks. If you are able to get away I hope you have a
really enjoyable and relaxing time. As usual during the summer holidays our
Church Services will continue on Sunday mornings and in the evening once again
we join with other Anglican Churches in the area for United Services. These
will be as follows and please note that each one begins at 6.30 p.m.
- 31st July - St Nicholas, Great Wakering
- 7th August - Holy Trinity, Southchurch
- 14th August - St Andrew, South Shoebury
- 21st August - St Augustine, Thorpe Bay
- 28th August - No Evening Service
- 4th September - St Mary, North Shoebury
God bless you Yours sincerely
