The pub was built on the grounds of the original 1852 Shoebury Tavern in about 1899 and has historic interest as a typical 'Arts and Crafts' design of the day.

It is said to be one of the most haunted pubs in Britain.

Currently vacant it is due for refurbishment and redevelopement in 2010
